HOMEWORK IDEAS DESIGN:
1. African/Australian Aborigine Mask Design – felt pen/coloured pencil
2. African/Australian Aborigine Textile Design – repeat pattern – felt pen/coloured pencil
3. Art Nouveau Design – repeat pattern – felt pen/coloured pencil
4. Art Deco Design – repeat pattern – felt pen/coloured pencil
5. Repeated forms in nature study – honeycomb/bark/shells/leafs/pine cones/patterns in rocks/animal patterns – shaded pencil/B&W pen/paint
6. Repeated forms in man-made objects – buildings/cogs/grills/vents
7. You will get the choice of either Graphic Design or Product Design next year. Get on the internet and see how other designers have approached these areas of design in the past – it will help you decide on what area of design interests you more. Here are some suggestions: Graphic Design – William Morris, Alphonse Mucha,A.M. You can either choose one area to concentrate on in detail or if you just want the practise at this stage, work through all the ideas.
1. NATURAL ENVIRONMENT - Texture in the landscape drawing – close up of rocks, a patch of ground, textured wood study – shaded chalk/finepoint black pen/stippled finepoint pen
2. NATURAL ENVIRONMENT - Weather conditions – take some photos of our wonderful weather and work from them if you don’t want the flu! – chalk drawing studies - colour/B&W – paint
3. PORTAITURE - Texture in the face. Close up of facial features – the more wrinkles the better! Chalk/Paint/finepoint pen/oil pastel/watercolour
4. PORTAITURE - Mood on faces – try to think of a theme e.g.: “The football Fan” - work from photos of family members – exaggerated mood? - ! – chalk drawing studies - colour/B&W – paint
5. STILL LIFE - Still Life Drawing – Studies of individual objects – try to think of a theme eg: “Country Kitchen” – find relevant objects - shaded chalk/finepoint black pen/stippled finepoint pen/oil pastel/watercolour
6. STILL LIFE - Composition - Laying out groups of objects in a pleasing arrangement – take photos – what works? What doesn’t? – work from photos or from your arrangement – any materials
7. Research an artist who interests you and who has produced pictures of Natural Environment/Portraiture/ Still Life that appeal. Here is some ideas of where to start but you could equally just type in Still Life painting into Google images to quickly see what’s out there.:
