S1-3 The Junior phase

During the transition period between primary and the Senior phase, emphasis is placed on the development of art and design skills, the visual elements and understanding basic art and design terminology.  In S1 & 2 pupils explore Line, Tone, Texture, Pattern, Shape Form and Perspective and get some experience of the use of pencil, pen, paint, monoprinyting, clay construction.  The will produce design work to given briefs, expressive work as well as investigate the work of a variety of artists and designers and at some point during each year produce work in groups or as part of a cross curricular activity.  In S3 pupils produce a mini unit in both expressive and design in preparation for the format of work in the senior phase.
