Baby Box Competition
Design a Baby Box competition
The Scottish Government and partners are running a competition for a new Baby Box design and the winning team will see their design on Baby Boxes all over Scotland from next year. Applications closed at the beginning of October so we were unable to enter the competition however thought it would be a good introduction to the Convention for the pupils. Concentrating on 3 rights - The right to play, freedom of Expression and The right to an Education - the pupils brainstormed ideas around each right. In the process they were thinking about the different aspects of life that these rights affected. they then developed their ideas into designs thinking about the layout of each side of the box and the scale they had to work to. Using templates, the pupils then made up miniature scaled versions of their designs into baby boxes. For their homework during this project, they had to research a fourth right that meant something to them and illustrate it in a media of their choice. To the right: 2018 winner of the Scottish Government's baby box competition - designs have to be black & white with little shading - the ideas is that as the baby becomes a toddler, they can colour it in.
